April serves as both Jazz Appreciation Month and National Poetry Month, and KRTU presents readings, performances and music on the Jazz Break at Noon to commemorate this annual merging of art-forms. Author Jim La-Villa Havelin joins host Kory Cook, with live guest musician George Prado and poets Bryce Milligan, Fernando Flores, Catherine Lee, Amalia Ortiz and Andrea Vocab Sanderson reading both original and classic works. The week concludes with a visit from new San Antonio poet laureate Octavio Quintanilla, featuring music selections from Charles Mingus, Luciana Souza, David Murray, Esteban Jordan, Thelonious Monk and more throughout the week.
