The Carver presents San Antonio’s own conga dynamo, Henry Brun, nicknamed “Mr. Ritmo” on Saturday, May 19, 8p.m. This concert is the final of four as part of The Little Carver Intimate Series.
Henry Brun is also host of the "Latin Jazz Brunch" every Sunday 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on KRTU 91.7 FM.
Born in the Bronx to Puerto Rican parents, Brun has been playing congas since the age of seven. Through the years Brun developed his own unique style and technique on bongos and timbales and has traveled the world working with legends such as Maynard Ferguson, Bob Hope & Lucille Ball. New York’s The Latin Jazz Corner nominated Henry Brun as one of the best Latin Jazz percussionists and named his arrangement of “Upper Manhattan Medical Group” one of the best Latin Jazz arrangements of 2010.
Brun’s professional discipline and dedication to musical excellence has earned him the opportunity to tour and record with such artists as Arturo Sandoval, Justo Almario, Charo, Los Lobos, Texas Tornados, Little Joe y La Familia and Los Super Seven.
Most recently, Brun was officially recognized by Governor Greg Abbott for being a vital influence in the Texas music scene and for his dedication as a musician and community leader in the Lone Star State. The United States flag was flown over the Texas State Capitol on April 18, 2018, recognizing it as Henry Brun Day.
