Places to Go
The newest program to join KRTU's diverse on-air line-up takes listeners on a jazz journey each Sunday evening.

Jazz is a living art form. Its many strains continue to inform, entertain, and mutate. Culture and influence ricochet both far and wide. The extraordinary experiment in musical conversation enters its second century and the precise conditions of jazz's improvisational vocabulary and syntax remain elusive. Places to Go considers the master practitioners of the present and the recent past-- the artists traveling through labyrinths of language and connection, beauty and release, reality and possibility. Each week, Places to Go will focus on a particular city or artistic community, illustrating the geography and cultural context incubating jazz's newest masterworks.

He grew up in Medway, Massachusetts and has also lived in Boston, Providence, Amsterdam, Austin, New York, Wisconsin and the Twin Cities. Andrew earned a PhD in music composition from the University of Minnesota--his dissertation piece is titled 45 Minutes for 128 Musicians-- and now directs the music technology program at UTSA while staying busy as an upright and electric bassist.
