KRTU's Latin Jazz Brunch Host Receives Recognition
On April 18, 2018, the Office of the Governor of Texas recognized San Antonio bandleader Henry Brun for his lifetime achievements in music by issuing a proclamation declaring it Henry Brun Day, with a flag flown over the State Capitol in his honor.
Born in the Bronx of Puerto Rican descent, Brun soaked up the musical melange of traditional Latin music, Caribbean rhythms and the progression of modern jazz at an early age. Brun was playing professionally by age eleven and soon developed his own unique style and technique on bongos, timbales and numerous percussion instruments. Next year marks 30 years since the creation of his award winning and committed band known as the Latin Playerz. Brun's long list of accolades also includes his involvement as a guest artist in 30 Grammy nominated productions.
When Brun's not performing and touring the world with his Playerz or International Trio, you can hear his long-standing and popular radio show The Latin Jazz Brunch, now celebrating its 15th year and heard every Sunday from 11am - 2pm on Jazz 91.7 FM KRTU.
