On Friday, April 7, 2017 KRTU made the big switch! A historic day for Trinity University and KRTU 91.7 FM, this upgrade concludes an extensive three-year project that now takes KRTU from 8,900 watts to 30,000 watts.
The KRTU Tower Initiative was announced on Saturday, January 23, 2016, on the 40th anniversary of the very first broadcast in 1976. (Watch a video of the announcement...)
The KRTU Tower Initiative has aimed to raise the necessary funds to increase its terrestrial broadcast signal strength from 8,900 to 30,000 watts, increasing its service area from 549 to over 3,000 square miles!
The new KRTU tower is located near Government Canyon State Natural Area off Galm Road on the far west side of the San Antonio metro area. (Image copyright Google.)
