February 5 - 9

Black History Month
​​​​​This week we'll hear recordings from musicians of the Harlem Renaissance, with Chick Webb, Billie Holiday, Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, Earl Hines, Fletcher Henderson and many others. We'll also hear music written for and dedicated to writers and artists from the Harlem Renaissance, including Langston Hughes and Elizabeth Catlett. ("A Great Day in Harlem" pictured at right.)

February 12 - 16

The Texas Music Educators Association 
The annual four-day TMEA convention is back in San Antonio, TX this week. We'll hear music from some of the country's top jazz educators from the past and present, including Billy Taylor, Clark Terry, Wynton Marsalis, Maria Schneider, Dave Liebman, Geri Allen and Terrell Stafford.

Impulse Records and The House That Trane Built
From 1960 until the end of the '70s, Impulse Records built a strong and reliable discography featuring many of the most appreciated and renowned modern jazz recordings to date. From J.J. Johnson, Oliver Nelson and Gil Evans to Archie Shepp, Roy Haynes, Charles Mingus, Charlie Haden, Carla Bley (pictured right) and gatekeeper John Coltrane, Impulse brought us some of the most progressive sounds in the music.

February 26 - 28

New Winter Recordings for 2018
We'll listen to some of the top recordings released since January 1, 2018 from various ensembles and bandleaders including GoGo Penguin, Adam Shulman, New Faces, Kneebody wit Inara George, Brenda Navarrete, Steve Slagle and more.
