KRTU interns help staff complete essential tasks, put in many hours on-air and work on independent projects. A group of creative, caring and smart individuals, we're grateful for the valuable contribution that our Fall 2016 interns have made this past semester.

Constantine Kouldukis, a junior from Washington, was the newest edition to the team this year and shares that "as a musician and avid music fan, my employment at KRTU has proven to be a simultaneously enriching and educational experience." He share with other KRTU interns an enthusiasm for working with others passionate about music and connects with donors on this common interest as the Development Intern.

One of our three San Antonio natives, Alejandro Esparza has listen to KRTU his entire life and credits the station for developing an early passion for jazz. As a Music major that's in charge of assisting in the curation of the jazz and indie libraries, Alejandro's current professional goal is to work for a major music publication: "[This] only became clear to me after working with KRTU and realizing how much I loved learning and talking about jazz. By being asked to discover and think critically about music every day, KRTU is providing me with the skills I need in order to achieve this goal." You can read his story about meeting Benny Golson in October...

John and Benji prepare for their important public engagement, networking, and marketing work with new KRTU business cards.

John Morgan and Benji Gomez are also San Antonio natives and have worked with the station since their second years at Trinity University (John is a junior and Benji graduates in May). As a team working together this past summer, the two made significant contributions toward increasing the visibility of Indie Overnight, improving the quality of on-air programming and online content, and have built meaningful relationships with community partners. Their fresh ideas and energetic approach to imagining a more vibrant local music scene have led to innovative new events like KRTUesdays.

You can hear Caroline Grand everyday as the voice of the jazz and indie calendars, but she is also a host of the "Sweet Caroline Hour" on Tuesday nights at 10 p.m. and writes articles for the Indie Overnight blog. "My experience at KRTU has opened my eyes to a side of the unique music culture of San Antonio and its jazz community that I hitherto had not experienced. Additionally, I have gained practical skills that I will continue to apply after my internship ends."

A double major in Theatre and Communication, his experiences at KRTU have made Alejandro Cardona realize that the opportunities for working in communication are vast: "My KRTU internship has also helped develop diverse skills in audio and video production and organization that I would have never acquired otherwise." Click here to view a video Alejandro made this year about our Growing Jazz initiative...

It goes without saying that our interns keep the staff on our toes. We’re thankful for the energy they bring to KRTU’s operations, demonstrating daily the cross-generational appeal of music, radio and jazz.
