Community Support for KRTU is Strong

Trinity University first year and a student of KRTU’s radio announcing class, Nico Champion volunteers to help make calls to donors during the Fall Membership Drive.

On October 16, we concluded our Fall Membership Drive – one of two weeks during the year when we give our listeners the opportunity to support the programming they love by donating to become members of the station.

Each on-air membership drive is the culmination of months of fundraising, during which we receive financial gifts that contribute toward the more than half of our operating budget that comes from individual donations.

In only eight days, we received almost $40,000 in pledges – an average of almost $5,000 per day! This was aided by the more than $21,000 we received in matching gifts and used as challenges during the drive.

We welcomed over twenty-three new sustaining members during this fall fundraising campaign! Would you believe that around $20,000 of our annual income comes from the ongoing support from sustaining members with pledges that automatically renew every year? That saves us time and money.

During the Fall Membership Drive, many business members also renewed their support. Known as the Rhythm Section, the following businesses joined our professionals group – Alamo Music Center, One80 Solar and UC Modern. In addition to the Rhythm Section, underwriting on KRTU provides an affordable marketing opportunity for local businesses and organizations while making an important investment in the future of non-commercial, educational radio in San Antonio.

Needless to say, we’re a small nonprofit with a lean operating budget, working efficiently to be effective with our available funds. With such a strong response from existing KRTU Members and new donors, we are humbled and grateful for this recent community endorsement of our station’s programming. Thank you.

If you missed our Fall Membership Drive, rest assured that you can join KRTU or renew your support anytime online at join.krtu.org – don’t delay in validating your passport to jazz and the arts community in the Alamo City!

We look forward to continuing to produce the kind of exceptional on-air features and community events that you’ve come to love and support. See you soon!
